Our Story

Our History

LTG 4×4 is a curated range of high quality specialised parts, accessories and trusted information, developed off the back of my 45 years 4 wheel driving experience in recreational, trade and mining.

Now let me take you back to the beginning.

By way of introduction, my interest in things 4WD grew from my family’s participation in the Toyota Landcruiser Club, a family friend started the South Australian chapter way back in the early 1970’s, so we started going on trips – we criss-crossed Australia far and wide, across the Simpson, to  the tip of Cape Yorke, the Kimberley,  you know, all those iconic places we still love to go.

By the end of the 70’s I was working in a helicopter crew, as an exploration field-hand for Stockdale Prospecting, a wholly owned subsidiary of DeBeers, the worlds largest diamond company.

I was based in the Northern Territory and outback South Australia, using International 4×4 trucks, Land Rover Series3’s – all petrol, and the very first of the Toyota diesels. I had a brand new HJ45 as a company car. WOW, What a power house that wasn’t !

By the mid-80’s, after completing an Honours Degree in Geophysics, I was working as a geophysicist with Delhi Petroleum in Outback South Australia, Queensland and New South Wales. The exploration area was approximately the size of Victoria. We were using all diesel Toyotas, Hilux and Landcruiser 47’s, 60’s and 75’s.

When Crocodile Dundee came out, I was looking into escorting American tourists around the outback, but started my own 4WD accessory and repair business instead. That was 1987.

In 89, I worked a contract for Santos, for just a few months, based in Kununurra, driving an old petrol 45 series. What a unit that was!  Exploring for onshore gas.

In recent years, I have worked as a contractor for other oil companies, working with Traditional Land Owners, driving areas yet to be explored.

Pure off-roading, just a Laptop with satellite images, mapping system and GPS.

10 hours a day traversing virgin country. Using Landcruiser turbo diesels,  100’s, 200’s and 76 Series.

The 4WD business I started back in ‘87 evolved over the proceeding 30 years into one with 15 staff across a range of sales, admin, manufacturing, and workshop activities, with Local, National and International Sales.

Along the way I started a local 4WD Club, The 4WD Adventurers Club of South Australia, with participants of a 4WD course I was teaching on behalf of the Workers Education Association, known as the WEA here in South Australia.

I also ran a range of Driver Training Courses and Tag-A-Long Trips to the Flinders Ranges, the Strzelecki Desert, High Country and the beaches along SA’s southern coast, Carpenters Rocks, Robe, Beachport, the Coorong. And a whole lot more.

Obviously we got to enjoy the 4WDing lifestyle with many other enthusiasts. You know…… camping, fishing, diving, hunting, 4wding.

Later I took on the ARB range of quality 4WD products as a Stockist Store, to partner with the good reputation of the workshop business.

Now we’re here at LTG 4×4, and with the benefit of all these experiences, I have curated an ever growing range of quality specialised parts & accessories.

100% of our focus is on products that have high performance, fit exactly like they should and are designed to look like the quality products they are.
